Who is the Course for?

The course is designed for those who want to strengthen their company’s security against insider threats and espionage.

It is aimed at security officers working in companies covered by the NIS2 and CER directives, or who handle confidential information, work within critical infrastructure, have security responsibilities, have employees who travel abroad, or are involved in product development, manufacturing, or sales strategy. It is also relevant for companies identified as potential targets for espionage.

No special prerequisites are required to participate in the course.

Course Objectives

• You will learn how to create espionage awareness briefings to train your employees on protecting themselves against espionage in their daily work, on social media, and while traveling.

• You will learn methods to protect your company from insiders and industrial espionage.

• You will be trained to serve as your company's espionage expert.

• You will gain skills to identify and handle espionage threats, as well as investigate suspicious incidents within your company.

Course Content

• Implementing espionage security measures in your company and integrating them with physical security and cybersecurity.

• Insight into the methods used by source handlers to recruit insiders and the motivation factors involved.

• Understanding the creative and devious strategies employed by source handlers in managing insiders within companies, and how they exploit weaknesses in corporate security culture.

• Prevent employees from finding themselves in compromising situations where they could be blackmailed into disclosing confidential information.

• Insight into how agents use elicitation to extract information from employees—without them realizing it!

• Protecting employees' intellectual capital from foreign actors seeking to acquire your knowledge.

• Training in building strong rapport with your employees so that they trust you and feel comfortable reporting suspicious incidents.

• Identification and management of insiders within your company, as well as methods to prevent insider incidents from occurring.

• Learn to protect your company from espionage threats, as well as to safeguard your employees from espionage on social media and while traveling.

• Preparation of an espionage awareness briefing and a travel briefing specifically designed for your company to enhance employee threat awareness, understanding of espionage methods, and security consciousness.

• Effective interview techniques for gathering details from employees who come forward with information about suspicious incidents.

• Investigating suspicious incidents and reporting to management and to your national police intelligence service.

• Development of the necessary mindset to function as the responsible espionage expert in your company.

Instructor

Torben Kabel is a former military intelligence soldier from the Danish Defence with 12 years of experience in human intelligence and counterintelligence. His service includes deployment as a human intelligence source handler in Afghanistan and three deployments to Iraq, first as Deputy Commander of Counterintelligence and later twice as Chief of Counterintelligence. Torben is a certified Special Agent from NATO's Allied Command Counterintelligence.

Teaching Method

The course consists of classroom teaching combined with interactive discussions and group work.

• Price per course: 5,340 EUR excluding VAT. Travel expenses and any accommodation are additional.
